Bank of New York
Challenge
The Web has shaken up the banking industry. More and more customers are looking for ways to maximize their banking by doing business over the Internet. The Bank of New York, one of the oldest banks in the United States, recognizes the need to maintain a premier Web presence in order to compete in today’s market and meet their customer’s growing needs.
The Bank of New York constantly strives to strengthen customer relationships, as they emerge as one of the largest financial holding companies in the United States. The bank identified three core business challenges that were essential to the success of its online operations:
- Minimize Web content maintenance responsibilities.
- Publish real-time information to respond to rapid market changes.
- Centrally administer content through a systematic approval process, to ensure content accuracy and accessibility throughout the bank, as well as maintain quality control.
Solution
The Bank of New York responded to these challenges by implementing RedDot Professional to manage the content for their customer-facing Web site. This implementation was part of a planned site redesign.
RedDot enables editors to quickly add, change and remove content on the Web site without the assistance of the site’s technical staff. This helps free up technical resources to be allocated to more mission critical business needs. Content does, however, move through the robust RedDot workflow engine to get management approval before publishing to the live site. This allows the bank to have complete content control.
RedDot software is the Web content management solution that meets the needs of the Bank of New York.
- Minimal Training Requirements for Editors: content can be created and posted quickly and easily.
- No HTML Knowledge Required: Editors do not need to know HTML. They work in a WYSIWYG environment, which ensures they stay within corporate standards and guidelines set up for the bank’s own Web branding. The technical staff can update the site’s design via templates, without affecting the content or having to manipulate navigation layout to fit the new design. The integrity of the site is protected.
- Browser-based Environment: Once the RedDot server is installed and implemented, there are no other installations required. Both the editorial and administration interfaces work within a Web browser.
- Distributed Content Authority: The bank can define a hierarchy of contributors who can create content and easily move it electronically to assigned editors for editing and approval.
- Standards-based Architecture: The bank needed a solution that would grow with their infrastructure, offering broad integration options and scalability, without sacrificing functionality. RedDot does this.
Results
The Bank of New York wasted no time in implementing the RedDot Professional content management system (CMS). The outcome has been outstanding, providing results that have positively impacted business.
- Dramatically Reduced Publication Times: Content creators can now publish their work faster, as it is routed automatically with RedDot to managers for approval. This significantly reduces the amount of time it takes for the content to reach the live Web site. Employees are no longer frustrated with the lack of timely publication, as content bottlenecks have been eliminated.
- Content Creators are Empowered: Knowledge workers are not only responsible for creating content, but also for ensuring its timely dissemination to customers and potential clients. The entire marketing department can now be involved with the development of the public Web sites. It’s a collaborative effort that can cover all bases.
- Content Value is Extended Across the Enterprise: Due to the regulatory approvals required, content that has cleared the RedDot workflow process is very valuable. It eliminates the need to reinvent the wheel for other business purposes. RedDot’s central administration of content provides the bank an easy way to manage a repository where content can be repurposed for other marketing uses throughout the bank.
